Doctors NightClub Dresses UK gave me back my life Giving his daughter away at her wedding, cradling his newborn grandson, and enjoying a day out with his family on the thames. These are some of the precious family moments that retired naval Commander nigel whales has been able to enjoy during the last year. The 61yearold has the doctors, nurses and other staff at southampton general hospital to thank for allowing him the gift of life after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. Now he is supporting southampton hospital charity's fundraising red and white appeal, backed by the daily echo, for a new 2.2m day case unit for patients with blood disorders including leukaemia, Myeloma, nonhodgkin lymphoma and haemophilia. Every fortnight the fatherofthree visits southampton general hospital's current day unit, the c3 hamwic day centre, to have blood taken to reduce his body's iron levels. All haematology and Cancer patients use the day centre, which leads to busy waiting rooms and a shortage of treatment areas. Nigel believes a dedicated haematology day case unit next to the extended c6 inpatient haematology unit will help to provide a better service for all patients. "I am keen to support it and make life so much easier for the recovering leukaemia patient,"He said. "It would have also made my life much easier during my treatment because you would not be Buffeted around in the corridors. The current waiting room is too small and there are not enough beds or seats.A separate haematology day ward will alleviate the current pressure on c3 and create A winwin for patients and staff in all areas of oncology and leukaemia treatment. "Once the new haematology day ward becomes available, not only will the haematology patients benefit but so will the capacity for the oncology patients increase by their exclusive use of their Existing c3 ward. " It was back in august 2003 that nigel was admitted to the hospital's c6 ward after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. "I didn't have an easy time of it in hospital,"Recalls nigel, who Was hypersensitive to the preferred chemotherapy drugs. He went into remission but as a result of his immune system being overwhelmed it was discovered that he had reactivated dormant tuberculosis. Afterwards nigel achieved 15 months of remission and started to regain a normal life. However in december 2004 he relapsed. Consultant haematologist dr debbie richardson put him onto a different chemotherapy drug.Nigel said: "If she hadn't found chemotherapy that i could tolerate i doubt i would be here to tell thein january 2006 he received a stem cell transplant, and after undergoing tissue typing, he was told he was a common anglo saxon so there were plenty of donors. "I was proud to be common! "Laughed Nigel, who says his anonymous stem cell donor had allowed him to see his children pass some important milestones. "I have seen them complete their education, get married and have children. For that I am very grateful,"Said nigel who worked for quinetiq in gosport after leaving the Cheap Bridesmaid Dresses UK navy. He is now enjoying his retirement with wife liz, herself coincidentally a haematology nurse, at their home in soberton, near wickham. He follows a careful diet and has rejoined the gym he used Before becoming ill and continues to enjoy walking, gardening and holidaying in the pyrenees. "Before i went in for treatment in 2003 i remember watching the tour de france on television and Thinking'will i see another tour de france?'" Since then Prom Dresses UK not only has nigel been able to watch the race again but has enjoyed plenty of happy family events thanks to the haematology unit's staff and his family's love and support.
